High Performance

High Performance in BC

WHY: Individualized to the different athletes as each athlete will have different performance goals. As a Provincial Sport Organization (PSO), the objective of high performance is to develop athletes that will continue toward the Canadian National Team to be managed by the National Sport Organization (NSO), but to be ready to support athletes who train within the province if training is not centralized.

High performance needs to be outcome based and process driven. Taking a cyclical approach between the two concepts allows one to flow into the other, and then recycled repeatedly. Without results, high performance would not be attainable; without process, high performance would not be sustainable.

High performance also needs to be team oriented, yet individualized. Considering both approaches at different ends of a continuum, different athletes will fit in different areas of this continuum. High performance athletes have unique needs but also require team support, including from other players, coaches, clubs, and communities.

HOW: By combining these principles together, a high performance culture can be achieved by Badminton BC with the following motto: "Train Differently". This concept allows maximum flexibility for those in high performance to operate within their strengths, but also to keep them accountable by minimizing weaknesses as well. As high performance often requires team support to maximize individual strengths, working together is a priority.

WHAT: High Performance in Badminton BC focuses on supporting these concepts while allowing enough flexibility to evolve with time. As what has worked for high performance in the past may not be relevant today, it is necessary to remain adaptable to apply new trends and processes when appropriate.
