September & October Competitions Recap

The first two months of the 2024-2025 Badminton BC season has been a cross country ride! Players, coaches and parents participated in 8 tournaments (Junior, Senior and Masters) stretching from Nanaimo, BC to Moncton, NB. The efforts in training, preparation, travel and competition deserve recognition; here are the tournament results from September/October and a special spotlight on certain individual's performance. Great work everyone, we are proud of you for representing Badminton BC and look forward to a stronger rest of season!

Atlantic Junior Elite & Open - Final results (Junior) | Final results (Open)

Venue: Université de Moncton - Moncton, NB

The first tournament of the 2024-2025 season took place in Moncton, New Brunswick. The Badminton Canada national schedule will features 10 Junior and 3 Senior events. Best of luck and safe travels to everyone and thank you for presenting BC! 

Spotlight achievement Badminton BC's first Badminton Canada title of the season: Nathan Lee (ClearOne Richmond) and Ethan Yen (ClearOne Richmond) - U19 BD Champion

 

VLTBC Junior A Series #1 - Final results

Venue: Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club - Vancouver, BC

The Badminton BC season officially started at the VLTBC Junior A alongside the Badminton BC Annual Awards Ceremony. Thank you to all players, parents, coaches and officials for all your support to kickstart another successful season!

Spotlight achievement - The youngest champion of the tournament at 9 years old Tiffany Ip (Stage 18 Badminton) - U13 GD Champion w/Chloe Yutian Liu (ClearOne Richmond)

 

Nanaimo Open & Masters - Final results

Venue: Oliver Woods Community Centre - Nanaimo, BC

Monrad tournament format to provide maximum value of matches to all participants! Check out all the photos taken by Badminton Nanaimo.

Spotlight achievement - Yosia Michael (ClearOne Richmond) & Tashin Gee (Cordova Bay) - XD Champion and MD & WD Champion respectively. Amazing performance throughout the whole tournament having not dropped a set until a penultimate XD final

 

Alberta Junior Elite - Final results (U13 & U15) | Final results (U17 & U19)

Venue: Sunridge Badminton Centre & ClearOne Calgry - Calgary, AB

 

Spotlight achievement - Ronice Tsz Wing Chan (ClearOne Richmond) - U15 Double Crown Champion (GD & XD) w/Mei Hei (Ace Badminton) and Christopher Tang (ClearOne Richmond) respectively

 

Manitoba Junior Elite - Final results

Venue: Qualico Sports For Life Centre - Winnipeg, MB

Spotlight achievement - Thalia Se (ClearOne Richmond) - U19 GD Champion w/Jadalynne Lee (AB) defending her title in back2back Junior Elite tournaments

 

Wings Junior B Series #1 - Final results

Venue: Wing’s Badminton - Richmond, BC

The first Junior B "Challenger" series event of the season took place in one of the newest facilities in BC: Wings Badminton (Richmond). The Junior B series has an importance in developing the junior program with the Finalists and Semi-finalists earning a main draw berth towards the following Junior A series event.

Hollyburn Junior A Series #2 - Final results

Venue: Hollyburn Country Club - West Vancouver, BC

Spotlight achievement - TRIPLE Triple Crowns (Singles, Doubles, Mixed Doubles)

U13 Boys Champion - Terry Tianyu Xie (Ace Badminton)

U15 Girls Champion - Amy Leyan Chen (Ace Badminton)

U15 Boys Champion - Max Ziming Wang (Epic Racquet Sports Club)

 

VRC Masters Series #1 - Final results

Venue: Vancouver Racquets Club & Vancouver Lawn Tennis and Badminton Club - Vancouver, BC

Bravo to Frank Price and the rest of the team for hosting a wonderful weekend of badminton and social events including a Halloween costume dinner party. There was an amazing turnout and we even saw players coming from across Canada (Alberta, Quebec) and USA (Seattle)!

The tradition of etching winners onto the plaque of fame continues with the 2024 edition

Spotlight achievementBill Metcalfe (Riverside Badminton) , Mike Mitson (Kelowna Badminton) , Rob Oldfield (Cordova Bay), Frank Price (Vancouver Racquets Club) - all competing in the 70+ category and even partnered with each other. Well played all around!
