Indigenous Cultural Safety Training for Sport & Physical Activity Sector

I·SPARC (the Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity, and Recreational Council of BC) was established for the purpose of improving the health outcomes of Indigenous people by supporting and encouraging physically active individuals, families, and communities.  We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to engage in sport, physical activity, and recreation in a safe, inclusive, and culturally relevant manner.

I·SPARC is extending the invitation for members from BC's sport, physical activity, and recreation sector to enroll in our Indigenous Cultural Safety Training.  This training is ideal for sport leaders, administrators, Board members, coaches, program coordinators (aged 16+) who are seeking to advance and support Indigenous participation in sport and physical activity, recreation programs.

We recognize the importance of belonging and inclusion as a way of fostering well-being and community connection.  For Indigenous people, systemic and cultural barriers often hinder participation in sport, physical activity, and recreation.  These barriers have led to historical trauma, lack of access to facilities and coaches, and disparities in funding.  To help address these challenges, I·SPARC invites administrators, coaches, and leaders to register for our Indigenous Cultural Safety Training.  This free learning experience is designed and led by I·SPARC and will offer invaluable insights into the history of Indigenous people and cultural/holistic perspectives on health and wellness.  This knowledge will enhance your work promoting sport, physical activity, and recreation and strengthen your relationships with Indigenous participants and communities.

Our training series, facilitated by I·SPARC leaders, Knowledge Keepers, and cultural safety experts, will provide Indigenous Cultural Safety Training through the lens of sport, physical activity, and recreation.  This professional development opportunity will empower you with the confidence and tools to make informed decisions that contributing to future growth and development through building safe and welcoming environments for all.

This highly recommend training and first of it’s kind for the sport sector, includes both online and in-person sessions.  Full attendance and commitment to the dates outlined below are required.
