New changes to the Junior A Circuit 2024-2025

Information for Athletes, Parents, Coaches and HOC’s

Goal

  • Support excellence in BC junior badminton athletes and coaches by:
    • focussing on “Training to Compete”
    • developing a winning mindset for National and International competitions

The changes will apply to

  • U13, U15, U17 and U19 events
  • Since U11 players are not earning national ranking points, they will not be part of BC Junior A series. Rather there will be a separate development program.  More information to be provided later.
  • Junior B Tournament information will be released soon

What is changing

  • Cap number of entries to ensure reasonable and consistent timelines at tournaments
  • Improve scheduling so that time commitment at venues can be shorter for athletes and parents (scheduling time blocks of events)
  • Use Merit Based registration process which ensures the top ranked athletes have priority into the Junior A events
  • Align and integrate the BC provincial ranking point system with the *NEW* National ranking point system

Cap for U13, U15, U17 & U 19

  • Based on 5 courts and 24 hours of court time available:
    • BS 16 players
    • GS 8 players
    • BD 8 teams
    • GD 6 teams
    • XD 8 teams per age group

Merit Based Registration Process

  • a Merit Based registration process will be used for all BC Junior A series tournaments
  • entry into each event will be determined according to the most current BC Junior A Rankings on the week following the close of registration; see caps above
  • The top ranked athletes registered for each event will be accepted into the draw
    • ex. In a draw of 16, the 16 top ranked athletes who have registered will be accepted into the draw
    • If the #4, 7, and 15 ranked athletes do not apply for the tournament, then the next 3 athletes who did apply will be selected in order of ranking.
    • Winner of a BC Junior B event will be guaranteed entry to the next Junior A tournament for the same event (ex. winner of the BS U17 in a Jr B tournament would qualify for the next Jr A tournament for BS U 17).

Registration Process for a BC Junior A tournament will be:

  • Stage 1Registration Opens
    • all athletes are welcome to apply to the tournament
    • athletes apply indicating events and intended partners
    • register via Tournament Software but no payment occurs at Stage 1
    • Badminton BC staff will determine which players will be approved/admitted into the tournament  based on the current ranking list and which athletes have applied; refer to Merit Based Registration Process above

  • Stage 2 – Complete Registration
    • a message will be sent to invite athletes who are approved/admitted into the tournament to complete their registration.
    • a waitlist will be established
    • athletes who are accepted will then access their entry on Tournament Software and complete payment to confirm their registration before the posted deadline.
    • If an athletes cancels after registering, the top ranked player on the waitlist will be offered the spot
