The Athlete of the Year Awards, founded by Sport BC, is the longest standing amateur sport recognition event in the country.  Awards in 18 different categories are given each year to athletes, coaches, and officials on their performance and contribution to sport in the province.  The Awards play a valuable role in nurturing athletics success while recognizing extraordinary accomplishments in BC. The Awards Gala is an event where the entire BC sport industry brings out the glitter and flashbulbs for an evening of celebration.

For Badminton BC our efforts to have members recognized begins back in November where we nominated 5 member:

  • High School Athlete of the Year – Jaden Tsang (VLTBC)
  • Masters Athlete of the Year – Siew Har Hong (VRC)
  • Masters Athlete of the Year – Henry Payntor Jr. (Summerland BC)
  • Daryl Thompson Award – Abdul Shaikh (VLTBC)
  • 24th Annual President’s Award – Lisa Davison (NCBA)

Following the announcements earlier this year by Sport BC, we are so pleased to be celebrating the nomination of award recipients and category finalists as follows:

Similar to our success in 2016 at the 50th Annual Athlete of the Year Awards (Hong and Robb), this again is historic for Badminton BC and we wish our award recipients and category finalist’s best wishes on their night to shine.
